Organics Bin

Your Organics bin (green lid) is emptied weekly from your kerbside and taken to Australian Native Landscapes composting facility in Tea Gardens where it is turned into mulch and compost that can be used at parks, sporting grounds or for agricultural purposes.

This service is a collaboration between Maitland, Cessnock and Singleton councils.

  • Fruit + Vegetables
  • Leftover Food Scraps
  • Loose Leaf Tea + Coffee grounds
  • Meat Scraps + Bones
  • Pasta + Rice
  • Soft Seafood + Shells
  • All Weeds
  • Bark + Leaves
  • Grass Clippings + Prunings
  • Flowers
  • Sticks + Small Branches (max diameter 10 centimeters)
  • Roots (max diameter 10 centimeters)
  • Palm Fronds

What CAN'T go in organics bin?

  • Bamboo, Compostable Packaging + Utensils
  • Bin Liners or Kitchen Tidy Bin Liner Bags that aren't supplied by Council
  • Bricks, Cement or Building Materials
  • Cardboard or Paper
  • Electronic Waste
  • Engineered Wood (Chipboard, MDF, Melamine)
  • Food Scraps in Packaging or Plastic Wrap
  • Household Garbage
  • Nappies
  • Pet Poo or Pet Waste
  • Hair or Teeth
  • Oils or Chemicals
  • Plastic or biodegradable bags
  • Recyclables

When is my organics bin collected?

With the introduction of the Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) service to Singleton on 30 June 2025, the green lidded organics bin is collected weekly for urban and rural properties.

Stolen bins

If your bin has been stolen, you need to contact Your Organics Bin  and organise for a new bin to be delivered.

Damaged bins

If your kerbside bin is damaged, fill out either a Domestic Waste Management Form or Commercial Waste Management Form (based on your service type) and return to Council.
