Summer Reading Challenge

Monday 1 December 2025 - Monday 2 February 2026.

The Summer Reading Challenge encourages reading over the summer holidays, use of library spaces, resources and collections to enrich the lives of children, young people and families.
With sponsorship from Glencore Coal Australia’s Bulga Coal, Singleton Library Summer Reading Challenge participants have the chance to win fabulous prizes.

This year there are two ways to play!

  1. The daily reader - be in the running to win gift vouchers by reading daily, not the amount you read. The more days you read the higher your chance of winning!
  2. The points earner - go for the grand prize of a Harry Hartog book subscription, earn points by reading, doing book reviews, and completing activity challenges. The more points you earn the higher your chance of winning.

How to Join?

  1. Participate in the challenge by joining Beanstack! Download the app or use the website.
  2. Create an account, or if you already have an account log-in.
  3. Search for Singleton Public Library and follow the sign-up steps until given the option to register for the Summer Reading Challenge!
  4. Click the + icon to start logging reading, and complete reviews or navigate to the ‘activities’ tab to start a challenge activity.

Why Participate?

The Summer Reading Challenge began as a way to keep literacy skills up over the summer break, but we think it has the capacity to be so much more!

It’s a reminder for everyone to invest in themselves to read what they love, to learn, kickstart imagination, take care of our brains and move away from screens.

The December – January period can be a full, busy, and slightly stressful time of year, so choose to put your wellbeing first into the new year and make this challenge a sustainable, long-term habit.

Reading doesn’t have to look the same for everyone, use this challenge to discover how you like to read. Perhaps you’re an audiobook person, or a graphic novel enthusiast, or love to look through magazines. Whatever or however you read should bring you joy and fill up your cup.

12 January | Daily reader | Drawn based on the number of days read

  • 3 x $50 gift card 0 – 4 preschool years
  • 3 x $50 gift card 5 – 12 primary years
  • 3 x $50 gift card 13 – 17 years

2 February | The Points Earner | Drawn based on the number of points earned

  • 1 x 12 month Harry Hartog Book Subscription 0 – 4 preschool years
