About the Communtiy Engagement Strategy

This Create Singleton Community Engagement Strategy sets the framework for the engagement function of Singleton Council, outlining our proactive approach to ensuring all stakeholders can have meaningful involvement that is inclusive, respectful, relevant, and timely.

Based on social justice principles – equity, access, participation and rights – it makes Council accountable for designing and implementing community engagement activities that are inclusive, respectful, relevant, and timely. It is our bond that people know what they can expect from us and most of all, that we can be trusted to keep them informed, seek their views and listen to their feedback.

Prepared in accordance with Section 402 of the Local Government Act 1993, which supports an integrated approach to community engagement planning, this Strategy is our commitment to how and when there is opportunity to influence decision making, and to ensure everyone has equal opportunity to create the Singleton we’re proud to be part of now, and in the future.

Meanwhile, Community Participation Plans (CCPs) establish how and when planning authorities (including Councils) will engage with the community, in a meaningful way, when performing their planning functions under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

About the Community Participation Plan

Singleton's Community Participation Plan has been prepared in accordance with Section 2.23 of Division 2.6 of Part 2 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and details how and when Singleton Council will undertake community participation when exercising its relevant planning functions under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979. Schedule 1 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 establishes minimum public exhibition timeframes to guide preparation of CPPs. It also provides scope for variations from minimum requirements.
