Animals and Pets

Our Rangers

Singleton Council Rangers monitor and provide assistance in a variety of areas across our Local Government Area.

Singleton Animal Management Facility

Council operates an impounding facility for stray pets. When animals, including dogs and cats, are seized by Council and cannot be immediately reunited with their owners, they are transported to the facility and looked after until an owner can be contacted.

Microchipping and Registering your Pet

It’s a requirement in NSW for all cats and dogs to be microchipped and placed on the NSW Pet Registry by the time they reach 12 weeks of age, or prior to sale, whichever comes first.

Desexing your cat or dog

Council recommends you discuss desexing your pet with your local vet.

Barking Dogs

Chronic or excessive barking is a sign that something is wrong and can be a nuisance to others in the community.

Cats

According to the Companion Animals Act 1998, cats are considered “free-roaming animals”.

Off-Leash Areas

Singleton Council has a leash-free dog park. This park is located along the Hunter River off Darlington Road, next to Merricks Fire Brigade Reserve.

Snakes

Snakes are a natural part of living in Australia and it’s very important to be snake aware and take relevant precautions so that we can enjoy the outdoors safely.

Singleton Council.

We acknowledge the Wanaruah, Wonnarua People as the traditional owners and custodians of the land within the Singleton local government area. Council pays respect to all Aboriginal Elders, past, present and future with a spiritual connection to these lands.
