Feedback invited on Christmas on John Street event

Published on 13 December 2021

The magic of Christmas has well and truly taken over Singleton after the return of  Christmas on John Street in Singleton last weekend.

Thousands of people converged on Singleton’s town centre on Friday night and Vicki Brereton, Council’s Acting General Manager said it was fantastic that the community could finally come together again to celebrate after bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the much-loved event from going ahead the past two years.

From entertainment and roving performances to market stalls, fireworks and, of course, Santa Claus in his own grotto, there was something for everyone at the event that has become the unofficial launch of the festive season.

Council is now keen to hear the community’s feedback by completing the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RP96CBD

“Christmas on John Street is about bringing everyone together to rejoice in the spirit of the season and it’s a wonderful re-enforcement of our purpose at Council to create community,” Ms Brereton said.

“Many hours of planning through to a lot of hard work on the night goes in to hosting Christmas on John Street, and it’s well and truly worth it when you see so many people out having a great time.

“It was fantastic to see so many people come out for the event to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year, as well as everything that’s great about Singleton.”

Ms Brereton said Friday’s event was the perfect curtain raiser to the festive season in Singleton, with a sleigh of other initiatives in partnership with the Singleton Business Chamber in force to spread festive cheer while supporting the local economy.

“Businesses have decked their shop windows in their efforts to be crowned best decorated in the Light Up Your Business competition. Prizes include a $1500 Spend in Singleton gift cards for the winning business as well as a $500 voucher for the local community group of their choice,” she said.

“There’s also 50 $25 Spend in Singleton gift cards up for grabs for hawk-eyed youngsters who spot one of the many elves keeping watch in local businesses in the Santa’s Little Helper competition.

“It’s extremely easy to get involved – vote for your favourite store or report an elf sighting using the QR code in store or on visit the Spend in Singleton website.

“Plus, if you still have items to check off your Christmas list, be sure to check out the Shop Singleton gift guide on Council’s website which showcases something for everyone – without having to leave town to get it.”
