Local shutterbugs encourages to snap up mentor programs spots

Local creatives with a keen interest in photography are being encouraged to apply for a free immersive mentorship program that will see them contribute to an upcoming exhibition at the Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre.  

The “We are Singleton: Portrait of a Town” exhibition program celebrates Singleton’s creative life and identity through the images and narratives of the people who call the area home, and Vicki Brereton, Singleton Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity said the program will give budding local photographers exclusive insight into the art of studio portraiture and storytelling. 

“The “We are Singleton: Portrait of a Town" exhibition showcases dozens of stories of Singleton people to create a one-of-a-kind time capsule, and in doing so, provide hands-on experience for a number of mentees in the areas of photography, research, community art and social documentary,” she said.

“Now more than ever it’s really important to harness and cultivate the creativity of the people of Singleton and this program will do exactly that.”

The program will be brought to life by Edwina Richards, an award-winning art and commercial photographer who specialises in community photo art. She is also the founder of the Women from the Hunter in Photography group. 

“Working closely with Edwina, mentees will get hands-on experience across three workshops at the new Singleton Arts + Cultural Centre, gaining exclusive access into an industry professional while enhancing their skills,” Ms Brereton said.

“And what better feeling than to see their hard work up in lights – quite literally – in a real-life art gallery upon completion.

“If you’re aged between 16 and 116 and would love to build on your photography skills, I encourage you to visit Council’s website and submit an expressions of interest form today.”
