The changing of the seasons brings a new exhibition to Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre, one that invites visitors in to deepen their connection to the outside world.

Avian Assembly features works by artists Fernando do Campo, Madeleine Kelly and Raquel Ormella exploring the relationships between humans and birds, as well as the broader ecological systems that connect us all.

The exhibition will officially open from 6.30pm on Friday 16 May, following an artist talk with Madeleine and Raquel at 5.30pm. Both are free to attend, and everyone is welcome.

Dwight Graham, Singleton Council’s Director Corporate + Commercial Services, said birds would shape the look of the new exhibition but on a deeper level, Avian Assembly continued exploring themes of sustainability, environment and our connection to them which have been prominent in most recent exhibitions.

“Avian Assembly follows on the heels of the successful Sustainable Singleton exhibition, which showcased the community’s understanding of and vision for local sustainability and the environment,” he said.

“This vibrant and thought-provoking new exhibition from three incredibly talented artists delves a little deeper into those themes and invites us all to ponder the responsibility we bear in safeguarding the natural world for future generations.

“Most critically, this exhibition challenges us to examine the human history that has shaped our interactions with the natural world and aims to foster a deeper connection to the environment that extends beyond art and inspires action.”

Mr Graham invited everyone along to the artist talk and official exhibition opening of Avian Assembly, which will show in the Main Gallery of the Arts + Cultural Centre until 3 August.

“This will be a fabulous conversation from two incredible artists about the processes, concepts and ideas involved in creating this intriguing exhibition,” he said.

“The talk is free to attend, but bookings are essential.”
