A $500,000 project to upgrade Pioneer Road Mountain Bike Park has further cemented Singleton’s place on the trail of must-visit mountain biking destinations thanks to a grant from the NSW Government’s Regional Housing Fund.

Delivered in a partnership between the NSW Government, Singleton Council and the Singleton Mountain Bike Club, Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore has officially opened the completed project ahead of the first Singleton Mountain Bike Club race on the upgraded track.

After it was identified as the number one priority area in Singleton’s Mountain Bike Feasibility Study adopted in 2021, works included upgrading 9.4km of existing trails, construction of 1.7km of new trails and closure and rehabilitation of 2.4km of existing trails for biodiversity protection.

The upgraded trails are suitable for intermediate to advanced riders, and as well as accommodating local residents, are also expected to entice even more people to visit Singleton Hunter Valley.

The NSW Government’s Regional Housing Fund (RHF) has provided $1.4 million for five projects in the Singleton area with the Pioneer Road Mountain Bike Park being the final project to be completed by Council.

The objectives of the RHF program are to unlock and accelerate new housing capacity in regional NSW, bring forward construction and the opportunity for jobs and economic activity in the short to medium term, support investment in critical development infrastructure and high-quality public and open spaces projects.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully said:

“Singleton and the western Hunter region are growing communities and the NSW Government is committed to supporting their growth by investing in important community infrastructure like Pioneer Road Mountain Bike Park.

“Recreational facilities like this play a vital role in regional communities. They not only encourage active lifestyles but also provide important sporting infrastructure for locals and visitors to enjoy.”

Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore said:

“Singleton is home to an active and growing mountain bike community who have been petitioning Council for a formalised mountain bike facility for many years.

“Since works began on site in November 2024, we’ve been thrilled to work alongside the Singleton Mountain Bike Club as the project progressed, and as the refurbished sections have been opened to people of all ages to enjoy.

“We’re thrilled that the project is now completely finished and look forward to seeing more people to enjoy all the benefits of mountain biking in a safe environment under the stewardship of the Singleton Mountain Bike Club.

“We’re very grateful for the support of the NSW Government to be able to deliver this project, but we know we’re not finished yet. We’ll continue to work through the Mountain Bike Feasibility Study to build on Singleton’s growing reputation as a mountain biking destination."

Singleton Mountain Bike Club secretary Alan Fletcher said:

“The completed work has been greatly appreciated by local riders, especially young riders. The trails get a workout after school and the weekends. The jump lines and flow trails are very popular.

“The new trails have also attracted a lot of riders from out of town.

“We have some mountain bike races planned for Pioneer Road following on from today’s race straight after the official opening.”
