Business as usual as Singleton Council holds first meeting of new term

Cr Tony Jarrett has been elected as Deputy Mayor in one of the first items of business for the new term of Singleton Council on 1 February 2022.

In the first meeting of the new Council, re-elected Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore led the Oath or Affirmations taken by each of the new councillors to commit to representing the best interests of the community while in office.

The Councillors are:

  • Cr Sue George
  • Cr Tony Jarrett
  • Cr Hollee Jenkins
  • Cr Mel McLachlan
  • Cr Tony McNamara
  • Cr Val Scott
  • Cr Danny Thompson

 Cr Moore said she was glad to be officially back to business as usual with a committed team making decisions for the betterment and progress of the Singleton local government area.

“I again congratulate all of the Councillors elected to the Chamber and look forward to continuing the productive teamwork and success that has become a hallmark of our Council,” she said.

“There was a great energy and enthusiasm at last night’s meeting which bodes well for the next three years and what we’ll achieve together for the people of Singleton in this term.”

Cr Jarrett said he was happy to take the role as deputy mayor after being elected by his fellow Councillors in an ordinary ballot.

The term of the Deputy Mayor will extend from last night’s meeting until the day of the next ordinary election for Singleton Council in September 2024.

“I was overwhelmed and very pleased by the support I received from the other Councillors,” Cr Jarrett said.

“I’m very much looking forward to working with the Mayor as part of this team, and to facing the challenges and delivering for the community over the next three years.”
