Draft Jerrys Plains Recreation Ground Plan of Management

At Council's Ordinary Meeting held on 18 April 2023, Council resolved to send the draft Jerrys Plains Recreation Ground Plan of Management to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment for Ministerial Consent under the Crown Land Management Act, 2016 to publicly exhibit the document.

Council has now received concurrence from NSW Department of Planning and Environment. Accordingly, the draft Jerrys Plains Recreation Ground Plan of Management is on public exhibition and community feedback is invited until 5pm, Monday 28 October 2024.

A further report will be presented to Council to consider submissions received during the exhibition period at the Ordinary meeting on 13 December 2024.

The draft Plan of Management categorises the land and governs the use and management of the 1.7ha site located between the Golden Highway and Wambo Street, providing clarity in the future development, use and management of the community land as well as supporting a unified approach to meeting the varied needs of the community.

The draft document proposes to categorise the land as:

  • Sportsground – covering the two fenced tennis courts, practice wall and adjoining amenities building incorporating a canteen public toilets, BBQ and picnic tables.
  • General Community Use – comprising the community hall and land immediate surrounding the hall.
  • Park – covering all remaining land (the majority of the site).

The core objectives for management of land categorised as Sportsground, General Community Use or Park is summarised as:

Sportsground

• To encourage, promote and facilitate recreational pursuits in the community involving organised and informal sporting activities and games; and

 • To ensure that activities are managed having regards to any adverse impact on nearby residences.

General Community Use

• To promote, encourage and provide for the use of the land, and to provide facilities on the land, to meet the current and future needs of the local community and of the wider public:

(a) in relation to public recreation and the physical, cultural, social and intellectual welfare or development of individual members of the public, and

(b) in relation to purposes for which a lease, licence or other estate may be granted in respect of the land (other than the provision of public utilities and works associated with or ancillary to public utilities).

Park

• To encourage, promote and facilitate recreational, cultural, social and educational pastimes and activities;

• To provide for passive recreational activities or pastimes and for the casual playing of games; and

• To improve the land in such a way as to promote and facilitate its use to achieve the other core objectives for its management.
