Living in Singleton

Population

Singleton was home to 24,719 people in 2021 with a growing population when comparing to the 2011 Census figure of 16,135. Of the people who live in Singleton, 51.51% are male and 48.49% female. The median age was 36 and data shows 7.91% of the population are Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The majority of people in Singleton are working age (15 to 64 years), representing 79.08% of the overall population.

Employment

Of the Singleton working age population, 61.61% are employed full-time and 29.38% work part-time. The most common occupations in Singleton include machinery operators and drivers (25.20%), technicians and trades workers (23.40%), professionals (10.60), community and personal service workers (9.4%) and managers (9.20%).

A total of 36.9% of people working in Singleton are employed by the Mining sector. Other major industries of employment include Construction (6.80%), Administration and Support Services (6.60%), Public Administration and Safety (6.30%), and Retail Trade (6.00%).

Education

The community has access to eight public schools and two private schools covering primary and secondary education. Higher education options include a Singleton TAFE Connected Learning Centre, University of Newcastle research and education facility at the Hunter Region Innovation Precinct in Muswellbrook (45 minutes drive) and the University of Newcastle Callaghan Campus which is less than an hour's drive.
