Workshop Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre

From Nature to Abstraction with Christopher Dewar
10.30 – 12.30pm
Thursday 2 February 2023

Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre invites you to join artist Christopher Dewar for a practical workshop that explores the process of creating abstract art. Drawing on the methods that feature in his exhibition ‘Rest Here’, Christopher will guide participants through simple steps to create a finished abstract painting. Beginning with flowers and foliage from the Singleton area, the group will create a still life sketch on paper. Participants will each work through compositional processes to create a finished abstract painting that is intrinsically linked to place.

This workshop is open only to seniors and all materials will be supplied.

Photography: History and Truth with Faye Neilson
 10.30 – 12pm
Wednesday 8 February 2023

We live in a time when photographs are shared quickly through online media and images can be altered and corrected imperceptibly in an instant. What does this mean for the tradition of photography as documentation and how do photographs relate to truth?  Join us at the Singleton Arts and Cultural Centre for a talk about the truth-bending history of photography as an artform. Morning tea will be available from 10.30am with the talk to begin at 11am.
