Record breaking Firelight to bring thousands to Singleton

Published on 16 May 2022

More than 5,000 people have turned out for the launch of the Singleton Firelight Festival over the weekend, which will continue to heat up the community and local economy across the next seven nights.

Firewalk awed local residents and visitors alike on Saturday and Sunday, offering a unique lighting spectacular that combined hologram and immersive laser light displays celebrating the diversity and creativity of the Singleton area.

Vicki Brereton, Singleton Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity said people were coming to Singleton from near and far to experience the must-see attraction.

The festival program includes the Firewalk lighting spectacular, which will run each night in Cook Park until Sunday 22 May, as well as the return of the much-loved Firelight After Dark event on John Street on Saturday 21 May.

“We are ecstatic at the community’s response to the launch of Firewalk on the weekend – people flocked to Cook Park in their thousands to view this incredible activation that showcases the vibrancy and creativity of the Singleton area,” Ms Brereton said.

“It was fantastic to see how uplifting the event was for everyone, and people were awed by the installations produced by Laservision, which included projections of artwork by local Wanaruah artist Debbie Becker, plus others that showcase our area’s diversity, heritage and culture.”

Ms Brereton said with almost 15,000 people booked in across the week for both Firewalk and the Firelight After Dark event on Saturday, people should jump online as soon as possible to secure their free tickets.

“There are still plenty of tickets available across the festival, but we’re encouraging people to get online and book early so that they don’t miss out,” she said.

“We're looking forward to the return of the Firelight After Dark event on Saturday evening – there will truly be something for everyone from dazzling laser light shows and fire dancing, to live music and of course food trucks and Hunter Valley wine, beer and spirits.

“There will also be pop up eateries at Firewalk on Thursday 19 May night serving savoury and sweet street eats – the perfect excuse for a mid-week outing with the whole family.

“We can’t wait for thousands more people to experience Singleton at our creative best, stay the night, explore the events and town centre at its absolute brightest and support local businesses.”
