Help shape a more accessible and inclusive community in Singleton
Published on 25 May 2026
Singleton residents are being encouraged to have their say on the future of accessibility and inclusion in the community, with Council launching consultation on its Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2027–2031.
People with disability, carers, families, advocates and community members are invited to complete an online survey and share their experiences, ideas and priorities to help identify barriers and opportunities for greater inclusion across the Singleton local government area.
Locals will also be able to provide input into the DIAP through Council-led community discussions and targeted stakeholder engagement.
Singleton Council’s Acting General Manager Mel Curtis said community feedback would play a vital role in shaping the new plan and ensuring it reflected the real experiences of local people.
“The Disability Inclusion Action Plan is an important strategic document that helps ensure everyone in our community has the opportunity to participate fully in everyday life,” she said.
“We want to hear directly from people with lived experience, as well as families, carers and advocates, about what is working well and where improvements are needed.
“By completing the survey, community members can help Council better understand the barriers people face and identify practical actions that will improve accessibility, inclusion and participation across Singleton.”
Feedback gathered during the consultation will directly inform the development of the DIAP 2027–2031 and help Council identify priorities and actions across four key focus areas: inclusive communities, access to employment, access to services, and systems and processes.
“We know inclusion impacts many aspects of daily life — from accessing buildings and services to participating in community events, activities and employment opportunities,” Ms Curtis said.
“It’s important that we listen to the people who experience these challenges firsthand so we can continue building a community where everyone feels welcome, supported and able to participate.”
Consultation is open until 22 June 2026.
