If you have ever wanted to watch a helicopter flyover, see firefighters respond to a blaze or observe a mock crash scene rescue, be sure not to miss the Singleton Emergency Services Expo.

The free family-friendly event will bring together local emergency services in one location on the green next to Council’s Administration Centre carpark on Saturday 20 August between 9am and 12pm.

A broad range of agencies have partnered with Council to deliver the expo — including NSW Rural Fire Service, Fire + Rescue NSW, NSW Police, NSW SES, NSW Ambulance, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service — with a variety of activities on show including live demonstrations and simulations, agency displays and emergency vehicles.

Justin Fitzpatrick-Barr, Council’s Director Infrastructure and Planning Services Group said the event was a unique opportunity to see local services in action and learn how to prepare for an emergency event.

“As we know all too well here in Singleton, natural disasters can strike anytime and anywhere,” he said.

“No one is immune, and the best thing you can do is ensure you and your family know exactly what to do when faced with a disaster or emergency.

“The expo will offer people of all ages the opportunity to both learn how to prepare for emergencies and see first-hand how emergency services personnel respond when the worst happens.

“It will be an exciting morning filled with amazing live demonstration, including chainsaw operations, fire response demonstrations, a helicopter flyover plus a multi-agency response to a car roll over simulation.”

Mr Fitzpatrick-Barr said the expo was also a great opportunity to meet and thank emergency services workers for their continued efforts in keeping our community safe.

“When severe storms and floods strike, fires rage, tragic road incidents occur, and even throughout the continuing COVID-19 pandemic, during the most difficult of times our emergency services are there for us.

“Don’t miss this chance to get a better understanding of how they work and what you can do to support them – all while having a fun day out with your family.”

The Singleton Emergency Services Expo will be held on Saturday 20 August from 9am – 12pm on the green next to the Singleton Council Administration Building carpark. Entry is free.
