The completion of work on the new Kilfoyles Bridge and nearby Stanhope Road will enhance road safety, improve connectivity, and strengthen flood resilience for residents, visitors and freight operators in the Hunter following the 2022 NSW floods.

The Australian and NSW Governments have invested $4.5million in combined disaster recovery funding as part of the Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Package and Essential Public Asset Reconstruction works under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements to replace Kilfoyles Bridge.

Completed in November 2025, work to raise about a one-kilometre section of Stanhope Road included major culvert upgrades to better manage drainage and improve access to the route during future severe rainfall events.

Following the demolition and removal of the old Kilfoyles Bridge, a new dual lane concrete bridge has been installed, with the road and bridge raised by a minimum of 2.2 metres above the previous flood level to improve accessibility during floods.

The work also included road realignment on approach to the bridge, a retaining wall, scour protection and other safety improvements including guardrail, line marking and signposting.

These upgrades reduce the likelihood of road and bridge closures during future flood events and reduce the need and costs for ongoing repairs and maintenance to the roads and bridge following severe weather.

The opening of the new Kilfoyles Bridge and betterment of Stanhope Road, including upgrades to Moores Corner, mark another important step in building a stronger, more resilient road network for Singleton.
