Reading has become even more accessible to the community with the addition of seven new Victor Readers to Singleton Public Library thanks to Yancoal Australia’s Mount Thorley Warkworth’s (MTW) Community Support Program.

Delivered in time for the Christmas holiday season, the seven new reading support devices boosts the total number of Victor Readers available to the community to 26.

Vicki Brereton, Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity said the new devices would be well received by the community and utilised through the Home Library Service.

“We know these fantastic reading devices are well loved by our home readers, so to have even more for our community to borrow is fantastic,” she said.

“These audiobook devices are designed to be used by people with vision and dexterity challenges but are also made available through the Home Library Service for those in our community who might be unable to visit the Library in person because of age or mobility barriers.

“We anticipate that as more Library resources are made available digitally, our Victor Readers will make our collection more accessible to all.

“We extend a heartfelt thanks to our friends at MTW for this donation – what a wonderful gift to deliver to our community in time for Christmas.”

Mount Thorley Warkworth General Manager David Bennett said he was pleased to support Singleton Public Library.

“Libraries ensure a strong sense of community and bring people together, so providing funding to help upgrade the equipment was a perfect fit for our community support program,” he said.

“We hope with the purchase of these new Victor Reader Stratus 4M Machines, even more people in the community with sight or dexterity issues can enjoy and discover audio books and music in high quality sound.

“We are always pleased when our funding can have a practical positive impact on a local community organisation.”
