At its meeting of 15 September 2026, Council resolved to exhibit the Draft Councillor Induction and Professional Development Policy on public exhibition and invite community feedback for a period of 28 days.
Community feedback is open until Tuesday 20 October 2026.
The purpose of the Councillor Induction and Professional Development Policy is to demonstrate Council’s commitment to ensuring that the Mayor and Councillors have access to induction and ongoing professional development which will assist them to develop and maintain the skills and knowledge required to effectively perform their civic role and responsibilities under the Local Government Act 1993.
It is a framework for the induction and ongoing professional development of elected councillors to support effective decision-making, ethical leadership and good governance throughout the elected Council term.
Amendments to the policy ensure it remains contemporary, aligns with current legislative requirements, Office of Local Government guidance and recognised best practice in local government governance.
The Draft Councillor Induction and Professional Development Policy is available for viewing in hard copy from the following locations:
- Council’s Administration Building: Cnr Queen Street and Civic Avenue, Singleton
- Singleton Visitor Information Centre: Townhead Park, New England Highway, Singleton
- Singleton Public Library: 8-10 Queen Street, Singleton
