Something for everyone as age proves no barrier to Seniors Festival

From morning tea with all the trimmings to connecting seniors to the services and activities available to them, Singleton is the place to celebrate the 2021 NSW Seniors Festival with something for everyone on Wednesday 21 April.
The Singleton Seniors Festival will take over the Singleton Civic Centre from 10am to 2pm showcasing community services organisations and groups available for over 55s including the Schoolies and Seniors Oral History Project with Singleton Library, volunteering and hobby organisations and entertainment.
A program of activities by community groups will also run throughout the week from 13-24 April and is available on the event calendar on Council’s website at www.singleton.nsw.gov.au
Themed ‘In our nature’, the 2021 NSW Seniors Festival aims to highlight the diverse range of experiences on offer to inspire seniors to be active, socialise, and connect with their community.
Vicki Brereton, Singleton Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity, said a special celebration of Seniors morning tea – catered by Singleton High School students – and the Seniors Achievement Awards would be a highlight of Singleton’s festivities.
“This is an event to bring seniors together to access services and activities, or even volunteer for a local organisation,” she said.
“The Community Connect event will cover sport, arts, culture, health and community services as well as special interest groups providing information and opportunities.
“Best of all – it’s all free. The celebration of Seniors morning tea will involve a reserved seating, fully-catered morning tea and the announcement of the Seniors Achievement awards. Tickets can be reserved at www.singleton-seniors-festival.eventbrite.com.au

The Seniors Community Connect includes:
- Singleton Library
- Craft and sewing with Singleton craft groups
- Cooking and baking with CWA
- Classic Car display by Singleton Classic Cars
- Knowledge with U3A
- Engaging with school students
- Community services organisations providing information stalls
- Free BBQ lunch catered by Singleton Lions Club
Ms Brereton said she looked forward to seeing as many over 55s as possible come along to the event.
“It’s wonderful that such a range of organisations and community services are coming together to provide a one-stop shop for over 55s looking for information, a group to join or a new hobby,” she said.
“This may be an event targeting seniors, but it’s also a showcase that it’s never too late to make new friends, try something new and get involved in the community.”
The Singleton Seniors Festival morning tea and Community Connect event will be held on Wednesday 21 April from 10am to 2pm at Singleton Civic Centre. The celebration of Seniors morning tea will be held at 10 to 11.30am. The morning tea is ticketed due to COVID-19 restrictions. The Seniors Community Connect event will be from 12 – 2pm.
