Free mentoring programs building stronger local businesses

Published on 19 April 2022

With over 30 local business owners already benefiting from the Singleton Business Builder program in response to COVID-19 and natural disasters, entrepreneurs operating in the Singleton local government area are again being invited to take part in the fee-free business development training and mentoring initiative.

From one-hour webinars to three-month professional mentoring programs on business management, marketing and building your own website, the Singleton Business Builder program was developed to support Singleton businesses at all life stages to grow and rebuild in the wake of a range of impacts including natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Run by Singleton Council in partnership with Business Singleton and funded by the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program, round two of the program will launch on Wednesday 4 May 2022 with a free meet the mentors breakfast event at Club Singleton, appropriately called Business Kickstarter, where businesses can find out about the range of free business support available and speak to local business mentors.

Vicki Brereton, Council’s Director Organisation and Community Capacity said the event would be a great introduction to what is to follow, including fee-free mentoring, coaching and training for businesses covering:

  • Marketing management
  • Website foundations – how to build your own website
  • Business development mentoring and support advisors
  • Business improvement and activation coaching program

“For local business owners who want more sales and customers, more time and less long hours, the Singleton Business Builder program provides business owners access to expert development and marketing mentors who can help you take action to solve your business challenges and thrive,” Ms Brereton said.

“Previous participants have likened the program to a drone hovering over your business, identifying ways you can work smarter not harder, enabling you to focus on what’s really important.

“Whether you’re starting a business, getting your business back on track, or taking it to the next level, this program will provide practical advice, action and accountability delivered by business experts and free to any local business.”

Ms Brereton said businesspeople interested in the program need only to come along to the breakfast event on Wednesday 4 May. Tickets are free and available via Eventbrite.

“I encourage all local business owners to come along to the free Kickstarter event to meet like-minded entrepreneurs, and also hear from program mentors and previous participants who have already benefited from the program,” she said.

“It will be a great opportunity to listen to business mentors answer the sticky questions about running a business and shed light on how to overcome challenges as well as what’s to come in the program over the next three months.

“Whether you’re starting a business or taking it to the next level, I encourage all local business people to get involved in the program to achieve the results they want to benefit their own businesses as well as the wider community.”
