Singleton Council’s Waste Management Facility has been awarded the best possible environmental rating by the EPA for the second time in 3 years.
Council’s Director Planning and Infrastructure, Mark Ihlein said the rating of 1A affirms Singleton as a leader in NSW for landfill environmental practices and proves Council’s systems and processes are effective in establishing better ongoing ecological management of waste services.
“Over the past couple of years, Council has been consistently rated among the best landfill sites in the state,” he said.
“We have put procedures and practices in place over the past 18 months to create a sustainable and environmentally conscience site.”
Council’s Waste Coordinator Troy Arnott said he was proud of the consistently positive results the facility receives from the EPA.
“The EPA have recognized the great work we do here and the remediation we have done over the last 2 to 3 years is outstanding. We’ve reduced our leachate rate by more than half,” he said.
“I never want to drive into the Singleton Waste Management Facility and it look like and smell like a tip- I want it to look like a park.
“For a landfill site of this size, to have received that rating is a really excellent result for Council.”
