Singleton Youth Venue cooks up perfect recipe for Youth Week celebrations

From traversing the sights of Singleton in our own local version of the Amazing Race through to creating some culinary delights in Singleton’s Greatest Cook-Off, Singleton Youth Venue is mixing up a tasty program of events for NSW Youth Week.

Add in a dodgeball tournament, Singleton’s biggest singalong, a youth disco and Obstacool - complete with old-fashioned three-legged, egg-and-spoon and sack races - and the result is a recipe for plenty of fun and some healthy competition!

Our best up-and-coming chefs will kick off two weeks of festivities on Tuesday 17 April when the kitchen heats up for Singleton’s Greatest Cook-Off from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Mayor of Singleton, Cr Sue Moore and Singleton Council General Manager Jason Linnane have the arduous and mouthwatering job of judging the winners.

“Youth Week might be marked on the calendar as the time to celebrate young people, but in Singleton we recognise the importance and the contribution of young people to our community every day,” Mr Linnane said.

“The Singleton Youth Venue has been in operation for 10 years, actively supporting people aged 11 to 17 years through a range of programs and activities to encourage their personal development and involvement in the community.

“But Council’s team at the Youth Venue have outdone themselves with the program they’ve put together for Youth Week.

“I can’t wait to sample the dishes that will be served up in Singleton’s Greatest Cook-Off, and Obstacool and Singleton’s Amazing Race are great ideas that will have young people getting active.”

NSW Youth Week will be held from 13 April to 22 April and this year’s theme is Unity through Diversity.

“We’ve embraced the theme to create a program that’s all-inclusive for people of all abilities and ages for the entire two weeks of the school holidays,” Mr Linnane said.

“With everything from science and invention to singing and drama on the table, it’s no cliche to say there’s something for everyone.”
