Local Housing Strategy

A Draft Local Housing Strategy (LHS) is being prepared by Singleton Council in accordance with Action 2.3.1 of the Singleton Local Strategic Planning Statement 2041 (LSPS) and the local housing strategy guidelines issued by the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

The LHS will set the scene for how housing development will be managed across the LGA, over the next 10 – 20 years, in terms of planning and design requirements. The LHS will be a sub-strategy to the LSPS and its Actions will help inform the Councils future Operational Plans.

The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s LHS guidelines establish the structure and key considerations of LHS’s as well as provide a template for Councils to follow.

The project to develop the Draft LHS is scheduled to commence and be completed within the 2020/2021 financial year. Council will be seeking input from key stakeholders during preparation of the Draft LHS as well as developing datasets to give a better understanding of local housing issues and potential measures to address housing issues.

In accordance with the Singleton Community Participation Plan , the Draft LHS will be exhibited for a period of not less than 28 days to allow the community to provide feedback on the draft strategy prior to completion. During the exhibition period, a copy of the Draft LHS and supporting material will be made available via the Public Exhibition page.
