The traditional custodians of the Singleton area are the Wonnarua/ Wonnaruah people.
In Singleton, 1,302 people identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, which is 5.7% of the population. In comparison, 2.9% of New South Wales’ residents identified as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Council is committed to strengthening relationships with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, utilising the Aboriginal Advisory Committee and is currently investigating a Reconciliation Action Plan.
NAIDOC Week is celebrated every year in the first week of July. Singleton's NAIDOC Week activities are coordinated by Council and the Aboriginal Advisory Committee.
