Singleton and the Olympics
The Sydney 2000 Olympic Torch travelled through Singleton on the 30th August 2000, day 84 of the Torch Relay's 100 day journey around Australia.

The Torch Route was:

Maitland Road, near Waddells Lane ; left turn into York Street ; right turn into John Street ; right turn into Cambell Street ; left turn into George Street ; and finishing at the Caltex Service Station.

Part of the celebration was a parade down John Street involving the Singleton on Hunter Pipes and Drums Band, the Singleton Town Band, local schools, sporting associations and community organisations. The torch then travelled by convoy vehicle to Muswellbrook.
